Italian Restaurant in St. Albans: La Cosa Nostra
La Cosa Nostra is, without a doubt, the best Italian restaraunt in St. Albans. Specialities include pasta dishes, calzone and pizza (see Pizza Fiorentina in photo) that they make right before your eyes.
Located in a residential area, La Cosa Nostra prides itself on knowing it’s many customers from the neighbourhood and further afield. The restaurant might have little in the way of decor and does tend to get crowded and noisy during peak times, but the food and friendly welcome more than makes up for these shortcomings. [Harden's also thinks highly of La Cosa Nostra.]
Our personal favourites are the Mozarella Corozza, which is a fried breaded mozarella served with salad and “the world’s best dressing”, the spicy Penne Arrabiata and Pizza Fiorentina which comes with mozarella, spinach, pine nuts, mushrooms and an egg on top.
All that and two bottles of Nastro Azzuro can be had for around £25. Not bad at all. Wine and dessert are also available.
Children are welcome, at least outside of peak times. Best to book in the evenings, particularly towards the weekend. Additional seating can be found outside the front of the restaurant in summer months. La Cosa Nostra is closed Sundays.
La Cosa Nostra is located at 62 Lattimore Road, St Albans AL1 3XR [map]

Did not find it all that great had fillet steak for 17 pounds comes with a side salad no potatoes ect.We also had 2 pizzas not much topping on these also very dry bit like cuboard all for 85 pounds not impressed.
One of my fave restaurants! Previous commenter must’ve had them on an off day. We’ve always been very pleased with the food – reasonably priced and tasty with it. The Pizza Al Trice as a starter is good (mixture of garlic, mozzarella and tomato bread – ideal to share) – and the rolled vegetarian pizza I had last time was superb (a variation on the usual calzone stuffed pizza). Pasta portions are also fairly generous. And if you go on a quiet night they’ll often throw in a free glass of limoncello with your coffee!
Cosa Nostra is my local restaurant and I have nothing but praise for them. Great pizzas at great prices – really tasty and authentic. Very friendly too. As it is an Italian prob best to stick with the Italian dishes for the best meal. It is also consistantly busy even on week nights.
Fantastic restaurant, small and friendly!!! Excellent food at a great price – Portion sizes spot on!!! Not quite sure what the reviewer meant about the pizzas being dry, these are hard to beat – traditional Italian style and as tasty as the ones from Italy without the flights – I guess if you want a american style greasy one without any taste then this wouldn’t be the place for you!!!!
It does get busy at weekend so it is a good idea to book in advance – but you won’t be dissapointed.
Spaghetti…Pizza napoletana…good wine…!?! The best restaurants of Italy!
Excellent, excellent pizza – good value and far more authentic than any other Italian restaurant in the area. I have to say that theirs are some of the best pizza I have had anywhere. Good service and friendly, accomodating staff. I am going back tonight!
