Shopping in St. Albans: Bread Shop

Submitted by Robin Hamman on March 18, 2007 – 07:01One Comment

  The Bread Shop

The ‘Bread Shop‘ has recently arrived in The Maltings, St. Albans. They serve specialist bread products, cakes, rolls, and pastries – all made from, according to their website, "specially selected wheat, flour and other key ingredients to ensure and maintain a superior standard and taste."

St. Albans joins some fine company – Bread Shop’s other stores can be found in Harrods, Selfridges London, St. Johns Wood and Chiswick.

Specialities include the four seed roll, made with pumpkinseeds, sunflower seeds, linseed and millet seeds kneaded together with potato flakes and sourdough and left to mature for sixteen hours for maximum flavour.

Our family – mom, dad and 13 month old kid – particularly enjoy the fresh large Pretzels on offer. We’re also tempted by their Pumpkin Loaf, Quark Danish and Cinnamon Swirl. You can see some of the Bread Shop’s range on their website.

The Bread Shop, St. Albans is located in The Maltings [map].

  • The market stall on a Saturday morning is equally good – outside the old corn hall – and about 50p/loaf cheaper. Oh – and their banana almond cake is to die for, as are their brownies…
