Barneys – Lively Bar, American Food, Free Wifi

I posted a review of Barneys in St. Albans about this time last year and little has changed since then.

I still love the veggie burger with mushrooms and swiss cheese, still wish it came with more fries and reckon the place still has the best Amstel in town.

Service hasn’t improved much – it remains friendly but on the slow side. And the wifi is still flakey, not that anyone but me ever seems to be using it.

Last night as I left I noticed that quite a lively crowd of well dressed professional types had formed in the bar area. This may very well be the place to go if you’re in your late 20’s or early 30’s and single. Actually, I think that was always the case but when I would have been one of Barney’s target customers I never bothered because the bar was always so packed at the weekends that it was impossible to get served. Thursday, it seemed on this visit at least, is a good balance of busy but not heaving.

Kids accompanied by parents are welcome in the restaurant during the day. Map and more info here….
