The Annual St. Albans Festival kicks off today. From the Festival website…

Come
and join thousands of people to celebrate our City’s history and
Britain’s first martyr: join the carnival procession and witness the
re-enactment of the execution of St
Alban.10.30am: Procession starts at Roman Verulamium, 11.30am: Festival Eucharist in the Cathedral, 1pm
St Albans Alive, Saturday 21st June, City Centre, 11.00am, Free
onwards: Activities including circus skills, face painting, chariot
racing and games on the Abbey Orchard. Food and drink available or
bring a picnic. 4pm: Festival Evensong in the Cathedral

Sir Lupin of Pipwithers: 11am, 12.30pm & 2pm Maltings
Shopping Centre. Proud Sir Lupin in full armour has lost his horse so
now he is carried on the heads of his quietly
muttering peasants!Three Billy Goats Gruff & Other Furry Tails: Theatre of Widdershins Clock Tower 11.15am & 2.15pm: Three Billy Goats Gruff, 12.15pm: Three Little Pigs 1.15pm:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Are you really sure what happened to
the wolf and those three little pigs? What about Goldilocks? Why was
she walking in those woods? And as for the three Billy Goats Gruff,
how did they really deal with that troll?Volpino Theatre de Risorius: 11.30am, 12.45pm & 2pm,
Civic Square by the Alban Arena. Look out for the little red caravan
all the way from our twin town of Nevers. It’s a magical space in
which Volpino, a young fox leaves home to search for a better life in
the city. Marvel as he makes friends with a rabbit, they fly round the
moon and create mayhem in a shed of elasticated chickens. Free but
limited seating – book in advance
Sir Gawain and the Loathly Lady Cornelius and Jones: 1.15pm & 2.30pm AbbeyOrchard.
King Arthur’s kingdom is threatened by the Black Knight – unless he can
answer the riddle the Knight will become King in his place. Searching
for the answer he meets the ugliest living creature he has ever seen -
the Loathly Lady. She can help him but in return he must promise to
grant her one wish, whatever that may be.
