Sunday Roast at The Peahen – A Review
The following is a guest review from Todd, a St. Albans based web designer who describes himself as a "St. Albans food and drink lover since 1998". Thanks for the guest post Todd – much appreciated!
I love a good roast lunch – as do a lot of people – yet I tend to find
that roast dinners from pubs are mostly disappointing. They are
generally either very simple and plain or badly executed with some
parts cold and/or undercooked. This I presume is down to the amount of
work that needs to go into putting together a good roast and the timing
constraints required to get it to all 'come together'. So when a close
friend recommended having a roast lunch at The Peahen I was very
excited about trying it out. I should also say at this point that I'm
actually already a fan of The Peahen and I found myself shocked that
I'd not had one there before.
Myself and 5 friends went along at about 2pm some Sundays ago. There
were 4 'Sunday Roast' options on the menu along with their usual
offerings. There was Beef with Yorkshire pudding, Pork with Stuffing, a
lamb dish and a vegetarian choice (this was veggie sausages I think). I
opted for the pork as I had a real craving for stuffing.
The lunches all arrived in good time and pretty much altogether. We
received full table service (even before we had ordered food) and the
usual good service I've previously experienced at The Peahen was maintained. Being the 'fatties' that we are my other half and I shared
desserts… we choose the sickly Belgian Waffle and Chocolate Brownie
offerings.
All in all I was very pleased with the whole experience and will
certainly be going back for another roast lunch there in the future.
The only thing that could really be seen as room for improvement was
the lack of Cider on tap… with that available I'd struggle to not
give it 5 stars out of 5.
