Papa Johns Pizza St. Albans – Total Fail

Submitted by Robin Hamman on October 15, 2009 – 09:262 Comments

Thinking of ordering a pizza from Papa Johns Pizza on Hatfield Road St. Albans? If my experience last night is anything to go by then I’d think again if I were you.

I placed my order for a medium pizza and garlic wedges at 21.18 after staying late at work. The pizza arrived at my house, about a 5 minute drive at that time of night, over an hour later – at 10.28.

The pizza was cold and hard, and appeared to be undercooked in the first place. The wedges too were cold and soggy. Normally I’d just toss it all in the microwave but in this instance our food was beyond saving.

I picked up my phone and realised Papa Johns had sent me a text message saying my pizza was on it’s way a full 45 minutes before it arrived. So where had it been all that time?!

I called to complain and they offered a replacement which I turned down given the time. They offered my next order free but I don’t intend to order from them again – there are plenty of alternatives. I asked for a refund instead. He argued at first but then said he’d send the driver straight back with my cash, and that he’d phone when said driver departed. No call, driver or cash ever arrived – well, at least not before I gave up on waiting and went to bed, hungry and £13.80 out of pocket, at around 23.30.

In future I shall avoid. They totally failed.

They’re usually fine and prompt but I wonder whether they’ve changed management recently – the last pizza i ordered from them also took over an hour (and a chasing phone call) to arrive. It tasted fine (and was hot) but the delay was unusual. I’d ordered online, and the confirmation email also took a long time to turn up.
