Scenic Day out at Ayot St. Lawrence

Submitted by Robin Hamman on October 16, 2009 – 16:52No Comment

Back in August, I took a drive out to Ayot St. Lawrence, a tiny village (more of a group of buildings than a village really) about 8 miles north of St. Albans, not far from Welwyn Garden City. There’s a lovely old ruined church that you can walk around as well as a pub, the Brocket Arms, which seems quite pleasant.

Just around the corner is Shaws Corner, once home to George Bernard Shaw and now a National trust property. There’s also a walking path, over fields with grazing livestock, that runs from the old ruins to the newer village church.

Makes for a nice couple of hours out if you’re so inclined but beware the narrow, winding, single track roads en route.
