Little Marrakech Morrocan Restaurant

Submitted by Robin Hamman on November 15, 2009 – 10:492 Comments

This is a guest review by Przemyslaw Sakrajda, who moved to St. Albans a few months ago and, before moving, got in touch with a few questions about getting started in St. Albans. I was delighted to get this review of Little Marrakech because I've been meaning to write a similarly glowing one – for me, it's the best sit down meal you can find in St. Albans at the moment – for some time but haven't got round to it. Here's what he had to say about what certainly is one of the best dining experiences in St. Albans:

"Tonight we went out for diner and it was the fifth time within last two months that we've
chosen Little Marrakech (31 Market Place, St Albans, Herts, AL3 5DL; Tel. 01727 853569 or
01727 815144).

The food was just beautiful! We've had Khodra tagine (for me) and Sultan's kadra tagine
(for my boyfriend), some couscous and mixed salad to share and some wine, of course. I
think that both of this tagines are the best food I've ever had in any restaurant (the
best is home cooked food anyway).

Two weeks ago we've got a desert as well, but believe me, in Little Marrakech you don't
need starters or deserts – you'll get stuffed completely having just the main course. The
cheese cake I've ordered was just brilliant! It remains me the original Polish cheesecake
a bit. :) The thing is that all desserts come from the fridge, so choose something that's
good as cold, but not reheated or whatever. Get a cheesecake!

The service is just brilliant! They're always at the table when you need them, but they
don't hung over you all the time. They're always smiling, and they don't crack stupid
jokes like in some other restaurants. They're just very professional, they always know
what's coming to the table and how to move candles, flowers, forks etc. to make space for
upcoming diner. Especially the blond girl with eastern European accent – she's the best
waiter I've seen in my life!

There are only two girls (on workdays is only one as I can see) to serve the whole
restaurant: one is doing everything (she seems to be the main floor manager) and the
other one that is helping her. They can manage about 15 tables without any problems and
on time*! That's what I call a great service. I tip there because they really deserve it.

If you're going to visit St Albans, this is the place that you should go for dinner,
especially if you're into Moroccan cosine.

The restaurant has got a character and a nice atmosphere. The only weird thing is the
music. In general the background music is in oriental style, but sometimes it's Indian,
not Arabic… but who cares? It's a very good place to go out for diner.

I think that Little Marakech is one of the best restaurants in St Albans. If you're going
to visit St Albans, this is the place that you should stop and go for diner.

===
*To get tagine you must wait a bit longer, because it takes time to cook. Still, the
service in Little Marrakech is much quicker than in other places when you're waiting for
a simple pizza!"
