Map: Last Minute Gift Ideas – Shopping Local in St. Albans
Looking for a last minute Christmas gift in St. Albans? Here’s a few ideas:
Kids: Little Wonders, in the Maltings, and Ryders Toys on London Road are both locally owned and operated toy shops. Little Wonders is at the posh end, with lovely dolls, wooden toys, puppets and more.
House Proud Mums: Lavender Blue and Lavender Green on London Road have lovely knick knacks, candles, mirrors and distressed furniture. Stop in to Barneys next door for a pint and a burger.
Design Conscious Dads: Shiang on Holywell hill has Danish furniture, glass birds and lighting as well as Tivoli radios that would make any guy proud. Richards Hifi in St. Peters Street has hifi gear ranging from seriously awesome hifi from Cyrus and Arcam, Loewe flatscreens and iPod docks from B&W.
Babies: The Baby Shop on London road has a good range and, as we’ve said here before, offers great service.
Foodies: I bought my Christmas wine, as always, at Grapeland in Victoria Street which carries an interesting, hand picked selection. Ask Graham and Nicola for advice and you won’t go wrong. There’s a new shop in St. Peters Street, Near and Far (or something like that – sorry!), which has a range of local, organic and imported delicacies. Buongiourno Italia, on Lattimore Road, has Italian pasta, Christmas cakes, meats and cheese – very much on our recommendation list. And something a bit different – Taste of Eastern Europe on London Road, has Perogi and other Polish specialities.
