information and independent reviews about living, shopping, eating and drinking in St. Albans. It's authored primarily by a man in his 30's who occasionally begs for posts from other local bloggers. No cash or other rewards have ever been received in an exchange for a review.

Are you a St. Albans based blogger, twitter user or member of St. Albans People? If so, pop down to the Hare and Hound on Thursday evening (11 March) for the opportunity to have a few drinks with some interesting people.

The last St. Albans bloggers meet-up, which took place last winter (much to our surprise there was several inches of snow on the ground by the time we left!), was a great success. We talked, of course, about our blogs and our motivations for doing them but also shared jokes, learned about each others day jobs, and annoyed one and other with random camera flashes.

It’s totally non-scary – no one else, unless they came to the last meet-up or bring a friend, is going to know anyone so it’s not awkward at all to turn up. Of course, you’ve got to be old enough to get into the pub which, thankfully, we all were.

A participant in the first meet-up, and an all round great guy as far as we can tell, Alex at Shedworking made the timely suggestion that we do it again. Maz on St. Albans People, a new local site where I’ve been posting articles and photos since December, took the initiative and has booked the bar at the Hare and Hound, on Sopwell Lane, from 18.30 on 11 March.

Part blog meet, the evening will also be St. Albans’ first ever “tweet up”, and we’re looking forward to meeting local bloggers, twitter users and members of the St. Albans People community. We’ll be in the bar on the left hand side – come along if you fancy an evening of meeting new and interesting people.

Whilst there are still a few broken images, I’ve now completed the transfer of St. Albans Blog to a new blogging platform and successfully installed a new theme.

All links should work but if you encounter links that don’t, let me know. Links from google also appear to be working although I’ve only checked a handful of them.

I’ve created what’s called a .htaccess file to redirect any traffic that doesn’t land on a content page. If you got a 404 page not found error, please let me know what you were looking for and I’ll try to fix it.

In the coming days and weeks, I’m planning to take steps to restore all the images that are broken, and to re-tag all the posts that don’t have tags. It’s going to take a bit of time but the new improved blog should be easier, and more pleasurable to use.

I’ve also redirected the RSS feed so if you subscibe via RSS you shouldn’t notice any change in service caused by the change, but let me know.

Many Thanks!

I’m in the process of moving my domain name, as well as implementing a new blog theme, to St. Albans blog. Over the next few days you might notice a few things breaking here and there. I’m fixing them as soon as I spot them but you’ll have to bear with me as I do.

Some of the domain names may very well break, but most should remain intact. Images also aren’t working properly, but I hope that will resolve as the domain name works it’s way through the system.

Thanks for being patient.

The visitor figures for January 2010 are in, with numbers boosted significantly by people looking for information and photos following the heavy snowfall at the start of the month. The result was 8,648 unique visitors and 13,286 page views. Thanks to everyone who visited and, in particular, to those who have taken the time to comment:

2009 was the busiest year yet here at St. Albans Blog. Numbers would have been higher had it not been for that little blip back in February/March when I forgot to renew the domain name but I’m still really pleased with performance over the year. Here are the graphs:

The graph above shows steady year on year growth in traffic whilst the graph below shows month on month performance over the year:

The November peak, by the way, was due to people looking for information about the fireworks, which no other local website seems to have bothered posting information about.

Thanks to everyone who visited and, in particular, to guest contributors and people who have posted comments.
