Choose from a selection of twelve locally sourced sausages – try three different varieties at a time. Last years winner was A&C Meats on Catherine Street. The Government has created a tool that makes it possible to view public assets – parks, buildings, disused space, etc – based on postcode. St. Albans Festival

The St. Albans Festival, which runs from the 18 June until the 3rd of July, kicked off yesterday with a rain soaked Festival Pilgrimage in the park and performances by a number of bands.

Between the downpours I could hear it all from the dryness of my livingroom but lets hope not everyone was put off as it should have been a great day…

Herts County Show

The annual Herts County Show is this Bank Holiday weekend. We go every year – although the ticket prices aren’t cheap, it is a great day out for the whole family. There’s equestrian, animal shows and of course awards for best farm animals/flowers/vegetables. It’s the premier countryside focused event in the calendar, which brings out farmers, posh country pile owners and us city folk in large numbers.

Lambing Day at Oaklands – Sunday 06 March

This Sunday, Oaklands College will be hosting a Lambing Day at their Smallford Campus. The free event is open from 10am to 2pm.

The annual event offers adults and children the opportunity to help the College celebrate, and see for themselves, the birth of this season’s lambs.

In addition to the birthing of lambs, there will be tractor rides, farm tours, family games and tours of Oaklands Animal Care Centre which is home to a range of animals from reptiles to rabbits.

The College offers a range of courses including Animal Care, Agriculture, Horticulture and Countryside Management.

Hot and cold refreshments will be available and homemade chutney and free-range Oaklands eggs will be on sale. Parking is available on site and is free, as is the event.

A & C Meats Wins Award in White Hart Tap Sausage Festival

The White Hart Tap, my favourite St. Albans Pub for food and real ale, recently held a sausage festival aimed at giving diners the opportunity to sample sausages from a variety of local butchers. A&C Meats, on Catherine Street, won top honours in the awards with their Pork and Harvest Pale Ale Sausage.

StAlbansPeople Find a Local Legend Competition

St. Albans People, where I contribute articles, is currently running a competition that will put the spotlight on a “local legend”.

The winning nominee – which could be a local tradesman, pub landlord, character about town, or business owner – will get a professional photo-shoot and will appear on a massive billboard in St. Albans.
